Haikus, drawings, and pasta

A source of creativity and imagination

Week 10- audit

I had to have a friend and an adult review my blog and give their opinions. They had to answer four questions:

1. What was your first impression from the blog?
2. What in the blog captured your attention most?
3. What on the blog distracted you most?
Here are their answers.

My friend Yang

1. Her first impression was that it was good.
2. The thing that captured her attention was that I put my answers for things in bold.
3. There was nothing that distracted Yang.
4. I can improve my blog by adding some photos or links.

My mom

1. Her first impression is that my blog was clever and interesting.
2. The thing that captured her attention most was the haikus.
3. The thing that distracted her was all of the spelling and typos.
4. I can improve my blog by proofreading my posts and posting more often.

I had two posts based by my own interests, and ten posts set by the challenge.
How many comments did you receive from classmates, teachers or overseas students?
I received two comments overall.
Which post received the most comments? Why do you think that happened?
I got one comment on both my leadership haiku posts, and my post on my Catalina Island Trip. I got those comments probably because we had to post comment a on other people’s blog for homework.
Which post did you enjoy writing the most and why?
I enjoyed writing the haikus for week seven leadership the most, because I love writing haikus.
Did you change blog themes at all and why?
I did not change blog themes because I think the one I have is bright and happy enough.
How many widgets do you have? Do you think this is too many or not enough?
I have 13 widgets, most of them were because our teacher made us put them there. I think it is a reasonable amount of widgets.

My nomination for the student blogging challenge 2014

My nomination for 2014’s student blogging challenge is by a girl named Megan, you can find her blog here.

The reason I am nominating her is because it is well written and entertaining. When I go on other student blogs, I usually read it for five minutes and move in. However, Megan’s blog was so interesting, that I kept reading! I love her poetry, her posts are well organized, and I love the theme. Another reason is that is screams personality. I love blogs like this, one we page lets you know what a person is like. Honestly, she seems like someone I would be friends with in real life.

I could go on and on, but I think I’ve said enough.

Week 9- The Best I Can Do

The Ocean: A Kingdom in its Own Way

I have always had an interest in marine biology, every since I was three. I know it may seem weird. A three year old, interested in fishes, of all things? Not cats, not unicorns, but things like sharks and sea cucumbers and jellyfish. Of course, it’s natural to act that way. You don’t come across many people like that at age three.
To me it’s the most amazing science. Think of all the things we know about space- we know more of those things than we know about the ocean! Amazing, right? I find the ocean fascination because there no telling what you’ll see. It’s like the earth leaked it’s imagination into the ocean and created these wonderful creatures.

So, I assume I should at least tell you about the start of it all. When I was three my parents took me to the aquarium to give me something to do since I was bored easily. Imagine my parents surprise when I could stare at a fish tank for longer than five minutes! I found the. Super interesting. They were like aliens- they seemed impossible until I discovered them. They were strange but unique, and like nothing animals on land. I loved water and the ocean already, so this only helped. I brought home a booklet listing all the species they have in the aquarium, which they give you when you enter. I loved it and read it when I was bored. Every night for two weeks, when my mom asked me what I wanted her to read to me, I asked for the booklet. I also had a book with glow-in-the-dark deep sea creatures, and I would read it all the time. The creatures were ugly- but I loved them. I wasn’t afraid of those, but I was afraid of big dogs. That’s something that will never make sense to me.
And here’s a link to that aquarium’s website, if you’d like to take a look: click me!

I intend to become a marine biologist when I’m older. The sea interests me so much- I knew what my dream job was as soon as I learned the word… When I was six. My teacher is a marine biologist, so that helps a lot! We even learned marine biology in science this year. I hope to go a college that teaches it, and I’m glad that there is some at least kinda close to my home. I have also set a personal “bucket list,” so that if I do become a marine biologist, I can try to complete these. Some goals include discovering a new species of ocean creatures, (it will most likely not be a fish, though,) learn with my current teacher, who I look up to as a mentor, and see a crab migration. They are small goals, I know, but. I need to start small. In the end, I find marine biology so interesting, and I’m always on the edge of my seat to learn more about the ocean. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Also, here is a link to a live webcam inside an aquarium tank, it’s really cool:click me!

Week 8- schooling

What time do you normally get up to go to school?
6:00 to 6:15 am.
What do you normally have for breakfast, recess, lunch, tea (dinner, supper)?
my breakfast is usually a bagel or some cereal, my lunch is usually a sandwich, and my dinner could be anything my parents want.
How do you get to school?
my mom drives me.
How long does it take to get to or from school?
twenty minutes to an hour.
A typical lunch at school
A baloney sandwich, apples, and a fiber bar.
Subjects you have to do – remember to explain abbreviations like LOTE and ELA
I have math, social studies, science, English, literature, and religion every day, although sometimes we replace one with computer lab, Spanish, art, library, music, or PE (physical education)
Specialist subjects or electives, options
we didn’t have any, unless you count after school where we have violin lessons, keyboard lessons, or drama.
Technology in your school
we have iPads and old computers from the 90’s, but we are getting macs next year.
A typical schoolday with timetable and breaks
religion is always first, at 8:00, although on Wednesdays it is replaced with mass(church,) and then at 8:45 we have either Spanish (Tuesdays and Thursdays,) computer lab (Wednesdays,) or Lit, (Friday and Monday.) After that we have math at 9:40. 10:35 is our recess. At 10:50 we have social studies (every day except Monday and Friday) because on Monday we have music, and PE on Fridays. Then we have science at 11:45, but on Monday we have social studies. On Fridays, after science, we go home, since Friday is a half day. Otherwise, we have lunch. On Mondays, we have Library at 1:00, and art at 1:50. On normal days, we go to literature and English. We get put of school at 2:45.
What do you do at break times? Games, activities etc
I play on my iPad if I have free time inside the classroom, but at recess I eat a snack and talk wiht friends. Same for lunch, except it’s my lunch that I’m eating.
School bell has gone for end of day – what happens now?
I stay in after school and do my homework until my dad picks me up at 4:30, or my mom picks me up at 6:00, and I go home.
Do you have to wear uniform?
yes, and I hate it. On Wednesdays we have to wear a white Hirt and black sweater-vest, regardless of the weather/tempature. At least I can wear the boys’ shorts instead of a skirt. In winter we can wear school sweatpants, but we cannot wear them to mass.
How many days per year are you at school? How is this arranged – terms etc?
I have no idea, it changes almost every year.
What do you enjoy most about school?
seeing my friends.
If you could improve your school, what would you do?
make it so not every school event is a popularity contest, and make the teacher who was here since ’71 retire. And give the student laptops instead of iPads.

Week 7- Leaders

Next is a series if haikus I wrote about world leaders whom we should recognize in our own community.

We know world leaders,
But there are leaders in us,
They are our true selves.

We talk about trends,
But we never make our own.
Why don’t we try it?

Why can’t we have peace?
Someday I hope we will stop
All the pain we made.

Sometimes I wish when
I’m in my times of darkness,
Someone will show love.

No one is perfect,
For without our own mistakes,
We would be too proud.

Catalina Island trip part 1

I have two favorite moments I experienced on my field trip to Ctalina, but I’ll write one now. I was at Catalina Island Wendesday-Friday, and saw some wonderful things. One of my favorite moments was kayaking- but it was scary. We kayaked all the way to the neighboring cove! Me and my kayaking partner Gavin found four kelps with air bladders the size of a grapefruit! We also found another one with an air bladder the size of a crab apple. We even named them! Bob was the first, he was the third biggest. Then we found Jeremy, his… “Brother,” who was the second biggest. We then found the smallest, which we named Amelia, which was Bob and Jeremy’s little cousin. Then we found Bob’s wife, Rebecca, the second smallest, and then we found Suzy, the grandmother, who was the biggest. We did find an even bigger one! believe it or not who was the grandpa named Matthew, but we had to toss him overboard because he weighed us down to much. Also, my classmates came face to face with a sea lion who was fighting with a pelican over a fish! Overall, it was a fun experience.

Week 5: Childhood memories

I have a somewhat hard time choosing my favorite childhood Emory, but I’ll try my best. My favorite childhood memory is swimming with my favorite cousin Colleen at my dad’s friend’ spool. We were playing something that had to do with altlantis, and the pool had tile in the side that was white and blue, and my dad’s friend’s dog came up to us and tried to lick out faces, so we ducked under the water to dodge him. He was a small Shitzu with curly white fur.
